Ohio is among the states that have the most stringent anti-gambling laws however, issue 3 concerning gambling in Ohio was approved with 53-47 percent. The amendment to Ohio’s Constitution will allow four casinos, including one of which is located in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Toledo. The casinos will operate with a 33 percent tax rate and will, the state’s voters hope will improve the economy across the state.

Dan Gilbert, the person who owns the NBA team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dan Gilbert was the principal source of funding for the creation of the four casinos. At present, 39 states within the United States have legalized casinos. One of the major reasons for the casinos to be approved is the potential for jobs and an increase in tourism for Ohio. With the opening of the new state-owned casinos, there is the potential of a completely new type of criminal justice in Ohio that is gambling-related offenses. Gambling on social occasions is permitted but it’s considered a misdemeanor to be a simple gambling penalty and criminalized for aggravated gambling offense.
